With 30 winners in the past 30 days and 10 in the last seven including undefeated 2YO colt Sovereign Fund and exciting fillies Junqueira and Capitol Queen, Capitalist is a sire at the forefront of thinking for most yearling buyers and for those looking outside the square this week there is opportunity to be found at Karaka.

Capitalist is the leading third crop sire in Australia by winners with 73 winners earning over $3.9million highlighted by stakes-winners Economics and Sovereign Fund, who will be one of the favourites for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Another of his two year-old debut winners this season, Lazzago is one of the best juveniles in the Chris Waller stable and was immediately given a short break after her debut Randwick win in December with the Golden Slipper in mind.

There are five yearlings catalogued for the NZB National Yearling Sale in Book 1 by Newgate Farm’s Capitalist, whose stocks are on the rise in 2023.

He has sired 10 stakes-winners so far and seven of them – including his G1 winner Captivant- are from mares carrying Danehill blood and four of the five yearlings below are bred this way.

Third foal of unraced half-sister by champion sire Dubawi to G2 winner Centennial and stakes-winner Siren’s Song from G2 placed Lurina, a half-sister to dual G1 winner Croco Rouge and blue hen Alidiva the dam of G1 winners Taipan, Ali-Royal and Sleepytime. Her full sister sold for $220,000 in Australia last year and named Pure Platinum has shown potential in two barrier trials for Trilogy Racing.

Third foal of an unraced Lonhro mare from the family of G1 stars Think It Over, Universal Prince, Universal Queen and Krone.

Lot 517 Filly Capitalist x Shuwaamekh, by Snitzel – Kaha Nui Farm

First foal of a placed half-sister to multiple G1 winner Shumookh, a daughter of triple G1 winning $1.8 million earner Shamekha. Bred on successful Capitalist x Snitzel nick that has produced nine winners, three of them stakes-winners Marine One, Cannonball and Profiteer.

Lot 610 Filly Capitalist x Unimpeachable, by Bradbury’s Luck - Landsdowne Park 

Half-sister to two winners from G3 placed Unimpeachable, who traces in tail female line to legendary matriarch Fanfreluche via the L’Extravagante branch of the family that has produced Australian Group I winners Russian Revolution and Home Affairs.

 

All yearlings purchased at Karaka are eligible for the lucrative Karaka Million Series with two $1 million races available for graduates as two and three-year-olds, plus the $120,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup for the duration of their career.

A busy set of trials at Rosehill on Monday morning featured four heats for juveniles and the winners were all unraced youngsters by Tassort, Too Darn Hot (GB), Super Seth and Golden Slipper winner Farnan, while a Wootton Bassett (GB) colt showed he could possibly still get to the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
