Breednet’s popular First Season Sire Gallery pages are now created offering a fast and easy way to compare yearlings by the new wave of sires on type, so this time let’s take a look at a horse that won three Group I races at Royal Ascot in Blue Point (IRE).
Bought from the Tattersalls October Book I Yearling Sale for 200,000 guineas, Blue Point raced for Godolphin and was an exceptional performer from age two until age five winning 11 of 20 starts and placing a further six times with four G1 sprint victories on his resume.
Blue Point raced six times at two, winning on debut and then winning by 11 lengths at Doncaster before landing the Group II Gimcrack Stakes (1200m) at York and placing the Group I Middle Park Stakes and Dewhurst Stakes.
At four, he won his first Group I in the King’s Stand Stakes (1000m) and at five he won three more G1 sprints taking the King’s Stand Stakes for a second time before backing up to win the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m) with a win in the Al Quoz Stakes (1200m)at Meydan the icing on the cake.
On the pedigree front, he is the fastest son of outstanding sire and proven sire of sires Shamardal and is from a European speed family.
