One to Watch – Canterbury

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 6

The powerful Maher Eustace stable produced an impressive debut winner by Capitalist at Canterbury on Friday night and she has a half-brother to be offered by Newgate Farm at Magic Millions.

A big strong filly, Capitol Queen has been given time to mature and had looked good in three previous trials coming into her first start and ran up to expectation.

She travelled nicely on the fence behind the leaders and when angled into the clear was able to hit the line hard and win the 1100m 3YO fillies maiden running away by nearly two lengths.

Capitol Queen was a $180,000 Magic Millions purchase for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock from the Newgate draft and is the third winner from three foals to race from stakes-placed Not a Single Doubt mare Claudia Jean.

A grand-daughter of triple Group I winner Miltak, Claudia Jean has a colt by Brutal that will be offered by Newgate as Lot 730 at Magic Millions.
