Progressive four year-old Banana Queen was a Breednet ‘One to Watch’ when breaking her maiden in November 2021, however things have not gone smoothly for the talented daughter of So You Think who has a close relation entered for Magic Millions.
Trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, Banana Queen lost her way on the heavy tracks last autumn, but the future now looks bright.
She won first up at Newcastle last month and then showed her class today winning the Benchmark 72 event over 1400m at Warwick Farm with a well timed run to take her overall record to three wins and two placings from eight starts with over $80,000 in prizemoney.
A homebred for Arcella Thoroughbreds, Banana Queen is a three-quarter sister to Group III placed Vanuatu and is the sixth winner from six foals to race from unraced Fastnet Rock mare Tropicana Lady, a full sister to Group I winner Irish Lights, the dam of Group II winner Omei Sword and stakes-winner Lipizzaner.
Trop
icana Lady produced a colt by Graff last spring and was then covered by Too Darn Hot (GB).
Given her pedigree, Banana Queen will be a valuable broodmare going forward if she gains some Black Type along the way.
The family features at Magic Millions with Arrowfield Stud to offer Lot 628, a Castelvecchio filly from Fastnet Rock mare Aspen Summit, a full sister to G1 winner Irish Lights and to the dam of Banana Queen.
