Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Five heats for juveniles at Rosehill on Thursday morning and there was a flurry of Russian Revolutions in action, plus an interesting heat featuring the half-sister to dual Group I winner September Run, who impressed us with her first trial and impressed as again.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained Merchant Navy filly Steel City won her first trial at Hawkesbury on December 9 and looked good again in this heat running the quickest time of the two year-olds to beat Rockabilly Rebel, with that pair racing 10 lengths clear of the rest.

 

 

A $700,000 Magic Millions purchase for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock/Best Bloodstock from the Coolmore draft, Steel City was bred by Go Bloodstock, who retain a share in her ownership along with Best Bloodstock and a big syndicate of owners.

She is the third foal from Group III winning Street Boss (USA) mare Pittsburgh Flyer, whose first two foals are $2.4million earning dual Group I winner September Run and the very smart sprinting filly My Yankee Girl.

Steel City was a $700,000 Magic Millions purchase.

Steel City is the most expensive yearling by Merchant Navy ever sold so carries the weight of high expectation.

 

Russian Revolution had the quinella in this heat with the unraced pair Rush Hour too good for Marching with blue-blood Snitzel Shinzo a quiet third.

The Chris Waller trained Shinzo is an interesting one being a homebred for Coolmore, who bought his mother Samaready for $1.8million at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale in 2020 when she was carrying him in-utero. He’s a brother to Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Exhilarates so would certainly be expected to get up and running at two.

The heat winner Rush Hour has had two trials now for two wins and Newgate would love to see him come out and do it on race day sooner rather than later with his half-brother by Brutal to be offered at Inglis Classic as Lot 667.

 

Another Russian Revolution quinella with two unraced colts Red Resistance and Oscar Charlie surging away from their rivals.

Neither were sold as yearlings and both race for partnerships involving Newgate and their respective breeders. Red Resistance is the second foal from brilliant Group II winning Lonhro mare Heatherly, who was bought by Go Bloodstock for $1.6million at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

 

More Newgate sires here with the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Capitalist colt Getty looking good to run past Extreme Choice colt Mambo Legend to win with ears pricked.

 

Bred and sold by Corumbene Stud, who also bred and raced his stakes-winning mother Samantha, Getty offered a lot to like on this trial and may enhance the appeal of his half-sister by Pride of Dubai headed to Inglis Classic as Lot 31.

 

The other trial for fillies was won by the Bjorn Baker trained All Too Hard filly Stefi Magnetica, who has now won both of her trials and is from Group I winner Mid Summer Music.

Bred and sold by Cressfield, Stefi Magentica is not a big filly, but as a half-sister to Group III winner Hellfest and Group III placed Euphoric Summer has plenty of pedigree on her side and looks a great chance of becoming a fifth winner from five to race for her mum.

Interesting filly Cigar Flick running well for second at her first trial. Trained by Chris Waller, this Churchill (IRE) filly is a homebred for the Ingham family and is the first foal of Palmateer, a metro winning half-sister by Fastnet Rock to Group I winning $3million earner Fangirl. Suspect there is more to come from this girl.
