Brave Smash (JPN) Filly Szabo Laying the Smack Down on Debut

Mark Smith - Thursday December 22

Riding high through the deeds of the undefeated Brave Halo, Aquis Farm’s Brave Smash (JPN) has another exciting prospect in the bargain National Yearling Sale purchase, Szabo.

Ridden by Billie-Rose Andrew for Brenton Andrew, Szabo made her racetrack debut over 800m at Ipswich on Thursday.

from $7 to start at $4.60, the daughter of Brave Smash (JPN) made every post a winner in a 4-length drubbing of the Spill The Beans filly Black Minto with the favoured Real Steal (JPN) colt Steel Grit a further two lengths back in third.

Bred by Esplin Family, Szabo was a $10,000 purchase for her trainer from the Eureka Stud draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Yearling Sale.

She is the first foal of the talented Charge Forward mare Something Secret, who numbered victories at Rosehill and Warwick Farm among her four wins for Jason Coyle.

Szabo a $10,000 National yearling

A daughter of the Listed Widden Stakes and Listed Illawarra Classic winner Better Land (Secret Savings), Something Secret does not have a yearling this season but foaled a Rich Enuff colt on September 19.

Brave Smash (JPN) has made an exciting start to his career at stud.

His unbeaten son Brave Halo has the $2million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes in his sights after three facile wins at Ascot.

In addition, the Gary Portelli-trained Kimochi finished second at Rosehill on debut, and the Richard & Chantelle Jolly-trained gelding Kalasec finished third at Morphettville at his only start.

The Group 1 MVRC Manikato Stakes and Group 1 MRC Futurity Stakes winner Brave Smash (JPN) has three catalogued for the Magic Millions, two for the Inglis Classic, and one at the Inglis Premier.
