Strong Field for G3 BJ McLachlan – Sale Mail

Tara Madgwick - Thursday December 22

The $250,000 Group III BRC BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) will be run at Doomben on Christmas eve and this key Magic Millions 2YO Classic lead up has proven a good indicator for future success over the years.

Race favourite is the Chris Munce trained Spirit of Boom filly Miss Coota, who has posted two wide margin wins at her only starts at Eagle Farm and Doomben on heavy and good tracks, so is clearly the testing material and has Craig Williams to ride.

Interesting runner from the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable is Written By colt The Novelist, who bolted in at Kembla at his only start.

Past winners of this race since 2004 include champion sire Snitzel, Driefontein, who won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on protest and later won at G1 level, Unencumbered, who was also successful in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic as was Coolangatta, who won it last year.

King’s Legacy was an interesting winner in 2019, going on to win both the Group I ATC Sires Produce and Champagne Stakes before retiring to Coolmore Stud this year.
