Boom Colt Godfather Captures Phelan Ready Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday December 10

The I Am Invincible colt Godfather made the first downpayment on his $1,100,000 purchase price when making a winning debut in Saturday’s Listed Eureka Stud Phelan Ready Stakes (1000m) at Eagle Farm.

Ridden by Ryan Maloney for Peter and Paul Snowden, Godfather led at every call to defeat the Encryption colt Cifrado by two and a quarter lengths, with the Capitalist colt Capital Chase a half-length back in third.

“We left it until Thursday morning to see how he worked before deciding whether to come,” Paul Snowden said.

uo;We were definitely going to bring one up for the race, but the way he went about his business, we were quietly confident he would get the job done.

“He showed his immaturity when rolling about under pressure and will come on a hell of a lot.

“He is a lovely horse who put his hand up early, and hopefully, he can continue that way.

“Once we get him home, we will assess where he is at from the trip up here and back. We have some time up our sleeves if we want to give him another run.”

Godfather a $1.1million Magic Millions yearling

James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership outlaid $1,100,000 for Godfather from the Yarraman Park Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

A brother to Swettenham Stud’s Group III MRC Blue Diamond Prelude winner I Am Immortal and three-quarter brother to dual Listed winner Whypeo, Godfather is the fourth winner from five to race out of the Group II Angus Armanasco Stakes winner Meliora.

The daughter of Ad Valorem (USA) has a yearling sister to Godfather and foaled another daughter of I Am Invincible on September 22.

Godfather is the 87th stakes-winner for Yarraman Park Stud’s I Am Invincible.

The reigning champion stallion has 53 catalogued for the Gold Coast and five at the Inglis Classic.
