First Aussie Stakes-Winner for Reliable Man

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 7
A memorable winner of the Group I ATC Queen Elizabeth Stakes, charismatic grey Reliable Man (GB) broke the ice at Flemington Saturday as a sire to post his first Australian stakes-winner.

Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Main Stage was unlucky when finishing a close second to Tavistock Abbey in the Victoria Derby Trial at Flemington last month.

He has obviously come through that run well and made no mistakes this time around, surging home late for Michael Walker to score a last to first neck win in the 1800 metre Listed VRC UCI Stakes.

A $150,000 NZB Ready to Run purchase from the Kilmore Farm draft for Patella Bloodstock/Busuttin Racing, Main Stage (image Grant Courtney)  has won two races and placed three times from five starts earning over $100,000 in prizemoney.

Main Stage holds an entry for the Group I VRC Victoria Derby and is certainly bred to get a trip being by the French Derby winner Reliable Man from a staying stakes-winner by Prized (USA) called Kiri.

Reliable Man"We love chasing those Derbies," Natalie Young said.

"I thought it was going to be too hard for him today but I'm super proud of the horse."

Main Stage now heads to the Group II MRC Caulfield Classic and then on to the Group I VRC Victoria Derby in November.

Kilmore Farm will offer the full sister to Main Stage at the 2017 NZB Ready to Run Sale as Lot 186.

Main Stage is the second stakes-winner worldwide for Reliable Man, who is also the sire of impressive German stakes-winner Narella.

Reliable Man stands at Westbury Stud at a fee of $17,500.
