Aquis have three first season sires with their progeny running this season and all of them had winners over the weekend with Performer and Santos siring their very first winners while Brave Smash (Jpn) clearly has an above average juvenile in Perth with Brave Halo going two for two at Ascot.
Trained by Sean and Jake Casey, two year-old colt Brave Halo was a hot favourite for the open juvenile event over 1000m and strode clear to win by nearly three lengths and has now won early $90,000 in prizemoney.
Brave Halo was a $135,000 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale purchase from the Willow Park draft for Hancock Quality Bloodstock and was bred by Aquis Farm, who stand his sire Brave Smash.
Brave Halo is the first winner from Sebring mare Danish Bingo, a daughter of stakes-winner Danedina from the family of Group II winner Seradess.
A dual Group I winning sprinter, Brave Smash stands at a fee of $22,000.
Performer posted his first winner on Sunday when Mishani Maverick improved on his debut third at Eagle Farm to win at the Sunshine Coast over 1000m
Trained by Less Ross for Mike Crooks’ Mishani Bloodstock, Mishani Maverick is a three-quarter brother to stakes-winner Mishani Hustler and is the fifth winner from good producing Falvelon mare Mishani Sinner.
A Group III winning son of Exceed and Excel, Performer stands at a fee of $6,600.
Santos broke the ice in New Zealand on Saturday when promising filly Ulanova scored a half length debut win at Te Rapa over 1000m.
The Stephen Marsh trained filly was a short priced favourite and showed plenty of talent to lead all the way and kick on to win well.
A $150,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for astute bloodstock agent Michael Wallace from the Kilgravin Lodge draft, Ulanova was the most expensive yearling from the first crop of Santos.
Ulanova is bred for speed being a three-quarter sister to stakes-winner Steal My Kisses and half-sister to stakes-placed Butter Blonde and Butch Kissidy. She is the sixth winner from six foals to race from Group III placed The Fairy’s Kiss, a half-sister to Group II winner Dame Giselle, who is by Santos’ sire I Am Invincible.
The Fairy’s Kiss was on-sold by Aquis at the 2020 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale when carrying Ulanova and was snapped up by Paul Willetts Bloodstock for $100,000 and sent to New Zealand.
A Group II winning son of I Am Invincible, Santos stands at a fee of $6,600.
