Storming Win for Uncle Bryn in Sale Cup

Mark Smith - Sunday October 23

Uncle Bryn (GB) bounced back from his last in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield to come from second last on the turn to land the $200,000 Listed Ladbrokes Sale Cup (1600) on Sunday.

Ridden by Daniel Moor for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, the son of Sea The Star flew home to defeat stablemate Flash Aaah (Lucas Cranach) by a widening two and a half lengths, with White Noise (El Roca) three-quarter length back in third.

Before he failed in the Toorak, Uncle Bryn (GB) had separated Smokin' Romans and Gold Trip (FR) in the Group III Naturalism Stakes at Caulfield.

“We threw him in the deep end, and he just went terrible last start, Busuttin said.

uo;We couldn’t find a reason why, and we thought we would press on and drop him back a cog.

“We thought that if he turned up he would be better than them, but it is never that easy.

“I still have full belief in him. He just got beat in the Naturalism.

“There’s a nice race in Sydney that’s worth $2 million and reserved for five-year-olds (the Five Diamonds), so I think we will be in Sydney next start. Flash Aah will probably go to the Cranbourne Cup.”

A 130,000gns purchase for Blandford Bloodstock from the Chasemore Farm consignment at the 2019 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Uncle Bryn (GB) was a talented performer for John and Thady Gosden.

The son of Sea The Stars won three of his six starts in Britain and placed in the Listed Blue Ribband Trial at Epsom.

With his stakes breakthrough, Uncle Bryn (GB) advances his record to five wins, two seconds, and two thirds from 14 starts ,with earnings of $321,918.

Chasemore Farm retains an interest in Uncle Bryn, who sports the silks of Seymour Bloodstock.

A half-brother to the Group III Goodwood Prestige Stakes winner Boomer (Kingman), Uncle Bryn is one of four winners from as many to race out of the stakes-placed Singspiel mare Wall Of Sound.

Wall Of Sound is a half-sister to Group III John of Gaunt Stakes winner The Cheka (Xaar), who was second in the Group 1 Darley July Cup having finished down the track to Black Caviar at his previous start in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Ascot.

Uncle Bryn is the 102nd stakes-winner for Sea The Stars, who stands at Gilltown Stud, Ireland for a fee of €150,000.
