Breeze Up Footage Now Available to View Online

Media Release - Friday October 21

New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2022 Ready to Run Sale Breeze Up clips and Mounting Yard parade videos are now available to view online at nzb.co.nz.

NZ Ready to Run breeze up video is now online.

On Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 October, 277 talented juveniles galloped down the home straight of Te Rapa Racecourse, with all two-year-olds having the last 200 metres of their work individually timed.

NZB Bloodstock Executive Kane Jones commented on the two days of breeze up action.

“Overall we are thrilled with the standard of the Breeze Ups this year. The weather certainly played its part and ideal track conditions made it fair for all horses.”

“We also received positive feedback from the jockeys who said the track was playing beautifully, making an even playing field across the board.

“On Day One [Monday 17 October], we saw 148 lots breeze while averaging a time of 10.77 seconds, while on Day Two [Tuesday 18 October], we saw 129 two-year-olds run an average time of 10.75 seconds.

“After originally postponing the Breeze Up dates, we were really aiming for a consistent track and based on the results, that is what we got.”

Penetrometer and weather reports were taken on both days which are clearly indicated against each lot for buyer’s assessment.

Alongside existing data, each catalogued lot now has an additional anemometer reading. Measuring the force and direction of the wind during the time of the horses’ breeze, which is recorded in metres per second and noted as either a headwind (H) or crosswind (C). A full wind reading interpretation guide is available to view here.

NZB’s Breeze Up clips cover footage from near the 600 metre mark to capture horses before they fully extend into their gallop, with the last 200 metres of their work individually timed. The Mounting Yard is also filmed for each lot, with vision of all two-year-olds parading with their jockey on board prior to their Breeze Up.

These videos are now available to view online at www.nzb.co.nz. Each heat is recorded in high definition, the quality will automatically scale based on your internet connection and device. The video clips can also be downloaded from Vimeo or viewed in couch mode under the Ready to Run Sale ‘Breeze Up’ tab on the website, playing all clips from start to finish.

Breeze Ups will also be broadcast lot-by-lot on Trackside in New Zealand, Racing.com and Sky Racing in Australia.

This year’s Ready to Run Sale will see over 320 two-year-olds go under the hammer on 16 and 17 November at the Karaka Sales Centre.
