New Zealand-based syndicators Go Racing have lofty goals for their team and are confident they have the right horses to target some of the lucrative prizes on offer in Australia over the next few months.
Horses running in the familiar blue, white and red silks have posted 16 wins this term and are showing no signs of slowing down.
Quality Time continued his tremendous run of form bringing up a winning hattrick with victory in the Port Macquarie Cup over (2000m) on Friday.
The European import began well from the barriers and though keen early on, he soon relaxed for jockey Tommy Berry and travelled in a nice rhythm throughout the early and middle stages. The speed was sedate for the first three-quarters of the race and pressure was applied on the leader from the 600m.
Berry began to make his move and once he balanced up in the straight, Quality Time was given his cue to let down and gave a good kick going on to score by a convincing margin.
“Sometimes when these horses go away they miss that day of work when they are travelling and he was very fresh for me going out of the gate,” Berry said. “He raced keen and showed his class, I was never getting beat coming to the corner but the way he travelled in the race just took his brilliance away from him late.”
That win secured the son of Amaron a spot in the inaugural running of the A$2m Big Dance on November 1 over a mile at Randwick.
Earlier in the day Flame of Venice notched up a well-deserved maiden win at Cranbourne in rain affected going.
“It was nice to see her get a win,” co-trainer Trent Busuttin said. “We appreciate the owners’ support and patience. It was nice to see her get a bit of continuity in her race today and she put them away in a manner that would suggest it won’t be her last win.
“It was only a maiden but she did it in fine fashion. She is a dead set 2000-2400m horse so there are plenty of options. Hopefully we have got a bit of confidence in the mare and she can go on with it now.”
Flame of Venice had placed in four of her previous eight starts and left no doubts as to who was superior on the day, winning her 2025m contest by 3.75L.
Meanwhile five-time winner Lord Ardmore is building up to his next target and has had two trials since finishing fourth in the Listed Wyong Cup (2100m) in early September.
The five-year-old son of Reliable Man has been earmarked as a contender for the A$1m Five Diamonds Prelude on October 15 before continuing on to the main event, the A$2m Five Diamonds (1800m) at Rosehill on November 5 where he is likely to be joined by Chris Waller stablemate Atishu.
Skyman, a winner of the Listed Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury in August, stepped out at the Rosehill trials earlier this week and will next be seen on raceday in the Listed Ladies Day Mile at Hawkesbury on November 3 as a lead into the A$1m The Gong a fortnight later.
“We have some exciting times coming up in Australia for our owners,” Go Racing’s Albert Bosma said. “We have several live chances of picking up the thick end of these million dollar races. We have bought horses over the last few years to specifically target these big money races and that approach is now paying dividends for our owners.”
