Risky Investment Proves a Sound Investment

Mark Smith - Sunday October 9

Annabel Neasham’s Group 1 Prix Jean Prat winner Laws Of Indices came with a barnstorming finish to run Tuvalu to three-quarters of a length in the Group 1 Toorak Hcp at Caulfield on Saturday, completing a good day for Oaklands Stud’s Power (GB), which began with a win by the debutant Risky Investment at Eagle Farm.

Ridden by Luke Tarrant for Townsville-based trainer Tom Button, Risky Investment defeated Mishani Cruise (Performer) by a length with a long-neck back to Mishani Maverick (Performer) in third.

Risky Investment had finished second to Miss Coota in a barrier trial, and Tom Button said he was buoyed by the seven-and-a-half length victory by the Spirit Of Boom filly in the fillies division.

“We trialled against her on Tuesday, and I was confident in my horse, but she was too slippery, but after watching her in the first, I grew in confidence,” Button said.

“We had a good little collect at juicy odds and we have a high opinion of him.

“He went to the trials a week and a half ago and had a barrier hiccup so we were forced to trialling him on Tuesday.

“He is a Magic Millions horse, so if we can build a bit of prizemoney and get into that race, it would be great for the owners who come from the Gold Coast.”

Risky Investment comes from the second Australian crop by the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas hero Power (GB) out of the Danehill Dancer mare Rosalita.

Risky investment a $40,000 Magic Millions yearling

Consigned by Oaklands Stud to Book 2 of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, he was a $40,000 purchase for his trainer.

He is the fifth winner from six to race out of Rosalita, who hails from the Aga Khan family of Doyoun, Dalsaan, and the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches heroine Dumka.

Rosalita has a yearling colt by Territories (IRE) and a filly foal by Power (GB).
