Second Stakes-Winner for Saxon Warrior

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 8

Blue-blood Deep Impact sire Saxon Warrior (Jpn) posted a new stakes-winner in Ireland overnight with talented filly Lumiere Rock taking out the Group III Staffordstown Stud Stakes (1m) at The Curragh.

Trained by Joseph O’Brien, Lumiere Rock improved on two second placings last month to break her maiden in style at her fourth start.

Lumiere Rock took control of the race and kept up a good gallop to win by a length and a half for Mikey Sheehy.

“Lumiere Rock has done it well. I've ridden her on all three previous starts and she just lacks a bit of a gear, we went steady last time. Today I was able to make the running and went along nicely in my own comfort zone, building it from four furlongs out,” Sheehy said.

“In fairness to her, every time a horse joined me she kept finding more. Hopefully she's a nice filly going forward and it's great to get black type.”

Lumiere Rock was bought for 55,000 guineas at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2 last year by Rockfield Farm and is the second winner from Last Gold, a half-sister to two Group I winners Stimulation and Bartaba, who are both by Saxon Warrior’s sire Deep Impact.

Saxon Warrior has made a pleasing start to his stud career siring 15 winners this year with his two stakes-winners Victoria Road and Lumiere Rock boosted by three more Group placed horses.
