Winx a First Time Mum at Age 11

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 8

Happy news overnight with the owners of champion mare Winx confirming their superstar has at last produced her first foal with the early morning arrival of a filly by Golden Slipper winning sire Pierro.

Owners Peter Tighe and Debbie Kepitis released a statement.

"Both Mum and foal are healthy and doing very well,'' the statement read.

"Thank you to the amazing team who have cared for Winx and her filly throughout this journey.

"We wish Winx all the best as she starts this new chapter as a ‘Super Mum'.''

It is rare for a commercial thoroughbred mare to be giving birth  to her first foal as an 11 year-old, which in horse age to human age terms puts Winx as being a middle aged lady, however given the prevalence of modern women choosing to have children later in life in order to pursue a career, Winx is actually right on trend!

Winx retired to stud in 2019, but lost her first foal by I Am Invincible and was then was given a year off to recover from the ordeal.

All of Australia will be wishing Winx and her filly well today!
