The first session of the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale delivered strong results with the full sister to Saturday’s Group I Newmarket Middle Park Stakes winner Blackbeard sparking a keen bidding dual before being sold for a whopping €2.6million, while Australian based Waratah Thoroughbreds bred and sold the highest priced colt.
Consigned by Glenvale Stud, the show-stopping No Nay Never filly from Muirin was bought by bloodstock agent Richard Knight.
“I thought she was the absolute standout of the sale even without her brother on the page,” said Knight. “Just as an individual she had everything; she’s a lovely size, a lovely shape and a very athletic filly. Every time I went and saw her she did exactly what I wanted. Then you can add the brother and the sire into the mix too. I’m just delighted to get her.”
The filly becomes the most expensive yearling sired by No Nay Never, who has a vintage crop of two year-olds running for him this year that also include another Group I winner in Little Big Bear and Group I placed Group II winning filly Meditate among five juvenile stakes-winners.
The four highest priced yearlings sold were all fillies with Galileo siring two of those with the filly from Group II winner Signora Cabello selling for €750,000 to Newtown Anner Stud.
The half-sister by Night of Thunder to Group I winner No Speak Alexander made €525,000 to the bid of BBA Ireland, while the Galileo filly from Group I winning scat Daddy mare Nickname made €430,000 when also bought by BBA Ireland
The top selling colt at €360,000 was by Frankel from Group I winning Montjeu mare Miss Keller and was secured by Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock.
He was bred by Australian based Waratah Thoroughbreds, who have sent the first four foals from Miss Keller back to Australia where three have raced and all have won races.
The sale continues tomorrow.
