Capitalist Colt Wins Heritage Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Saturday September 24

Decimated by scratchings, the Listed ATC Heritage Stakes (1100m) for three year-olds at Rosehill on Saturday featured just six starters with progressive Capitalist colt Economics seizing the opportunity to grab Black Type with a dominant first up win.

Trained by Annabel Neasham, Economics won at Scone at his second start back in May and looked to have come back in great order in his recent barrier trials.

Ridden by Chad Schofield, Economics always looked the horse to beat in the run stalking the leader Semillon before dashing away to win by a length and a half over gallant filly Opal Ridge.

uo;We’ve been waiting and waiting to get him to the races as he’s always shown us a lot of ability, but we’ve taken our time with him,” said Annabel Neasham, who will assess the colt after this run before confirming any future plans.

“He’s a really high quality horse and on his work on Tuesday I knew it would take a good horse to beat him.

“He’s developing into a lovely horse and is an exciting sprinter for the Fung family.”

Economics was a savvy $260,000 MM National Yearling Sale purchase.

A $260,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase from the Lustre Lodge draft for Tony Fung Investments, he runs in the Aquis colours and has now won two of three starts earning over $137,000 in prizemoney.

Bred by Australian Bloodstock, Economics is a half-brother to stakes-placed Wolf Moon and is the second winner from Group III placed Anabaa’s Legacy, who comes from the family of Group I winner Ball Park.

Anabaa’s Legacy has a yearling colt by Shalaa (IRE) and was covered last spring by Hellbent. Her two year-old So You think  colt sold for $350,000 at Magic Millions this year to Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/The Osher Group Pty Ltd.

Economics is the ninth stakes-winner for Capitalist, who stands at Newgate at a fee of $99,000.
