Three 2YO Trial Winners From the One Farm!

Media Release - Monday September 19

Sydney’s first official 2-year-old barrier trials of the 2022/23 racing season provided a glowing endorsement of Sledmere Stud with three of the 10 heat winners having been foaled, reared and raised on the farm during their all-important formative period.

A traditional touchstone event to each new juvenile racing season in the Harbour City, Monday’s trials witnessed Perfect Proposal (20f, Russian Revolution-Perfect Persuasion), Ozzmosis (20c, Zoustar-No More Tears) and Fameux (20c, Exceed And Excel-Daysee Doom) all win their respective heats in the style of precocious youngsters which have taken to racing like ready-made performers.

All foaled-down at Sledmere Stud in 2020, the trio had their early development overseen and supervised on the farm — two of the trio also going through the outfit’s eminently successful sales program.

Perfect Proposal was subsequently offered and sold at the 2022 Inglis Australian Yearling Sale where the filly was bought by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott and Kestrel Thoroughbreds for $425,000. The daughter of Russian Revolution recorded the fastest time of the morning and was one of four winners to represent the Waterhouse-Bott stable.

Unofficially recognised as Tulloch Lodge’s stable jockey, Tim Clark rode Perfect Proposal and nominated her as the pick of the fillies on show during the morning.

“She’s put her hand up all the way and she’s been really nice from Day 1,” he said. “She’s put the time on the board and probably done it in the best style, I felt, so she’s probably put her hand up as maybe the leading contender [for the Gimcrack Stakes] at the moment.”

Ozzmosis was consigned for the 2022 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale and purchased by Darby Racing for $250,000. The Zoustar colt scored by over a length in Heat 7 and is trained by Bjorn Baker for one of the most successful syndication companies in the business.

In contrast to Perfect Proposal and Ozzmosis, Heat 9 winner Fameux was retained by his breeders to race and is now trained on their behalf by Annabel Neasham. Most notably, the exciting colt is the first foal of the tremendously popular Group 1 winning racemare Daysee Doom.

Daysee Doom changed hands earlier this year when sold at the Inglis Chairman's Sale for $1.1million in foal to Woottoon Bassett (GB) . She was bought by Widden stud/ David Redvers and will be going to Zoustar this spring.

The very encouraging performances of Perfect Proposal, Ozzmosis and Fameux hopefully indicate that Sledmere Stud’s reputation for producing sharp 2-year-olds will continue unbated this juvenile season.

Last season witnessed graduates Revolutionary Miss (Gr.2 Blue Diamond Prelude Stks) and Sebonack (Gr.3 Chairman’s Stks) both win feature black-type events in the division, on top of Dame Giselle claiming the Group 2 Reisling Stakes in 2020.
