Guineas Contenders Running Today

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 31

The release of entries for the Group I Caulfield Guineas and Thousand Guineas has added plenty of interest to competitive maiden events which are often the first stepping off point for potential contenders, so let’s take a look at the runners today that hold entries including two blue-blood colts by Siyouni and Deep Impact.

The second race at Sale is an interesting maiden with nearly half the runners holding feature race entries.

Race favourite Dakarai is having his second start following a debut third and is prepared by Wendy Kelly, who famously started the career of triple Group I winning 3YO Hitotsu.

Dakarai is bred to be a French classic contender!

A $300,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Arrowfield draft, Dakarai is by champion French sire Siyouni, whose champion son St Mark's Basilica is standing at Coolmore Australia this spring. He has an Aga Khan female pedigree and is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to triple Group I winning Siyouni mare Ervedya.

Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young have already won a Group I win with Deep Impact training Glint of Hope to win the Australasian Oaks and they take the wraps off a colt by the same sire in Muramasa.

A $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Arrowfield draft, Muramasa is the first foal from Group II ATC Silver Shadow Stakes winner Omei Swrod, a fast daughter of High Chaparral (IRE) that was also placed in a Golden Rose.

Muramasa is the first foal of $1.7million mare Omei Sword.

Omei Sword was a $1.7million Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale purchase in 2018 and is bred in the purple being from Fastnet Rock’s Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Irish Lights, so there will be a lot of interest in the progress of Muramasa.
