Unique Opportunity at Half Price Magic Millions Online Sale

Media Release - Monday August 29

The next Magic Millions Online Sale (5-9 September) will see an offering of 22 unbroken two-year-old fillies make up a large portion of the catalogue.

The offering of these fillies by proven stallions such as Written Tycoon, Lonhro, Dundeel, Spirit of Boom, Nicconi, Rubick and Smart Missile, as well as up and comers like Hellbent, Harry Angel, American Pharoah and Trapeze Artist, has come about in unusual circumstances.

Many will have noticed at the National Yearling Sale in June, a large number of yearlings knocked down to Louis Bloodstock. No one had ever heard of them. Suddenly everyone was scrambling to discover who this new industry player was.

Over a three-hour period, Louis Bloodstock spent nearly $1 million on 22 fillies. That's a genuinely big splash. We can now tell you Louis Bloodstock is the entity which former Magic Millions proprietor Rob Ferguson used to purchase these horses. And why Louis? It is the name of his dog!

The plot thickens when shortly afterwards it was revealed by Rob that on the day, he experienced a "medical episode." Rob, who suffers from a lung condition, was in the throes of being weaned off some strong steroids by his doctor. Unbeknown to him, one of the side-effects of this process are feelings of invulnerability and euphoria.

As Rob professed, "It is like having been at the Magic Millions bar all day and then deciding to buy some horses. It felt like a great idea at the time."

The horses were all paid for promptly. Now the dust has settled and Rob has had the time to take stock of his situation, he has made the decision to re-offer all twenty-two fillies for sale.

"It was just one of those things that happened. I'll probably end up famous because of it," chuckled Rob. "I have had some feedback from a few good judges who have seen the horses and they tell me that there are some nice fillies in the group. So, I may not have done too bad a job."

"One of the vendors has already offered to buy their filly back at what we paid for her, as they felt she was sold too cheaply. I didn’t accept the offer, as I want the sale to be fair and transparent. We bought twenty-two, so all twenty-two will be reoffered."

$160,000 Lonhro filly from Adria is the highest priced filly in the group.

Since the National Sale, all fillies have agisted at Di Hannel’s Warrandale Stud at Biddaddaba. A vet will carry out a clinical and a laryngoscopy examination of each horse on arrival at the Magic Millions complex, and the reports of the vet’s findings will be posted on the Magic Millions sale pages.

Rob has decided to offer each filly with a reserve of 50% of their recent purchase price. Rob points out, "Obviously it looks like I am going to show a loss, as I'm willing to take a haircut on each horse. But it was never my intention to own these horses. When I purchased these fillies I am sure I made a lot of vendors happy. This time around I will probably be making a lot of buyers happy."

All of the aforementioned fillies will be available for inspection at the Gold Coast Sales Complex from 9am to 4pm on Tuesday 6th to Thursday 8th and 9am until sale close on Friday 9th. For details regarding inspection please contact Ben Culham on 0419 646 860.

Entries for the Magic Millions Online (5-9 September) auction will close on Wednesday. For more information contact a member of Magic Millions' Bloodstock team or visit www.magicmillions.online
