Spring Goals for Caboche

Media Release - Wednesday August 24

New Zealand-bred gelding Caboche could be in for a big spring according to his trainer Chris Waller.

The son of Vadamos has returned in good order after capping his three-year-old season with a placing in the Gr.1 Queensland Derby (2400m) and Waller believes the best is yet to come from the New Zealand-bred.

Vadamos (Fr) is the sire of Caboche.

“He has come back really well,” Waller told Sky Racing.

“We think he can take the next step as a four-year-old. He was a late developer at three and did a good job in Queensland.

“He will be joining in against the better horses hopefully later in the spring.”

He will kick-off his preparation over 1500m at Rosehill on Saturday.

Caboche was purchased out of Curraghmore’s 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock Book 1 Yearling Sale draft by bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster for $180,000.

Waller is also looking forward to lining up fellow Kiwi-bred Grace And Harmony over 1400m on the same card.

The Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) winner resumed with a pleasing runner-up result at Randwick earlier this month and Waller believes she too could be instore for a lucrative spring.

“It was her first run in a long time, so we thought she may have needed it,” Waller said.

“The way she finished off was really good. She has got a lot of class on her side, as we saw in her three-year-old year, and it looks like she has come back really well.

“We expect her to run well and she will be a nice horse heading to some of the nice races later in spring.”

A homebred for Greg Perry’s Greenwich Stud, Grace And Harmony is a three-quarter-sister to the Gr.1 Flight Stakes (1600m) runner-up Sezanne out of the top-class Choisir mare Champagne Harmony. – NZ Racing Desk
