Spring is in the Air for Turn Me Loose!

Media Release - Monday August 22

In a manner reminiscent of her triple Group 1 winning sire Turn Me Loose, Gr.1 2YO winner Lickety Split resumed her exciting career with another terrific performance to down her more seasoned peers in the Gr.3 Northland Breeders Stakes at Ruakaka at the weekend.

In a telling sign of things to come, the beautifully conformed daughter of Turn Me Loose looked well on track for an exciting 3YO season with her no nonsense and uncompromising desire to win to the fore in this competitive black-type event.

“If you want to define bravery, you look up Turn Me Loose in the dictionary and there it would be,” commented legendary Melbourne racecaller Greg Miles following the win of Turn Me Loose in the Gr.1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield and the same mantra could well apply to Lickety Split.

Trainer Andrew Forsman was equally impressed. “She has spelled very well and furnished into a pretty powerful unit now and I think she will just keep getting better as her Dad did.

“You always have a few nerves first-up as to whether you have them fit enough but she showed she wanted to be there. She knows where the winning post is and she will only get better from here.”

Bred by good friends Dean Hawkins and Nick Hewson who share in the ownership with close friends and family, Lickety Split is now destined for a Melbourne campaign holding a nomination for the Gr.1 Caulfield 1000 Guineas.

Lickety Split is just one of numerous young gallopers emerging for Turn Me Loose as we head into Spring and the new racing season.

Last season’s Leading 2nd Crop Sire for stakes winners in Australasia, besides Lickety Split, Turn Me Loose will be represented by his Melbourne Gr.2 winning son Prix De Turn, winner of the A$750,000 Alister Clark Stakes, who resumed recently with an eye-catching first up run.

Another son Alabama Gold, five length winner of the Gr.3 Matamata Slipper at two, returns to Taupo this week to progress his Gr.1 Guineas campaign while his exciting filly Victoria Roc is scheduled to make her Melbourne debut at Bendigo for the Anthony Freedman stable this week.

Ohakune Carrot is another promising Victorian 3YO from the David and Emma-lee Brown stable who debuts at Sandown this week while impressive West Australian filly Kia Ora Jewel, who won last week, looks destined for higher honours having already secured black type on her CV.

Studmaster Rodney Schick is excited when discussing the future prospects for his young stallion.

Turn Me Loose is doing it on all platforms at the moment, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. He was the leading 2nd Crop sire in New Zealand last year for stakes winners across Australasia

“He’s received excellent support since retiring to stud and his record will only continue to get better.”
