gavelhouse.com graduate Century Miss justifies favouritism

Media Release - Monday October 2
gavelhouse graduate Century Miss provided connections with plenty to celebrate at Ellerslie on Saturday, handling a step up in grade with consummate ease at the iconic venue.

Century MissWell rated by the market, the daughter of Mastercraftsman started favourite in the $25,000 Queenstown House Rating 75 over 2100m and outclassed her rivals with a tough staying performance in the heavy going under Michael Coleman.

Breaking maiden ranks just two starts ago, Century Miss's win on Saturday takes her earnings to over $26,000 – a heathy return on her $5,000 purchase price when sold online by breeders Windsor Park Stud.

Trainer Graham Thomas commented "She has done extremely well in what is her first race preparation and has pulled up ok from her effort on Saturday."

"At this stage I'm almost certain she will now go out for a spell and then we will aim to have her back ready to go in the autumn so she can keep making her way through the grades on tracks she seems most effective on."

Further adding appeal to the mare's pedigree since her purchase is stakes-placed half-sister Volks Lightning (Volksraad) who continues to perform well in the Vermair Racing colours.

Windsor Park Stud will offer a Guillotine half-brother to Century Miss and Volks Lightning at the upcoming New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale at Lot 255on 22 November.
