Guineas Contenders Running Today

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 10

The release of entries for the Group I Caulfield Guineas and Thousand Guineas has added plenty of interest to competitive maiden events which are often the first stepping off point for potential contenders, so let’s take a look at the runners today that hold entries.

The Joe Pride trained Shalaa (IRE) colt Shalatin finished last season winless, but did contest some of the best juvenile races and was always competitive so should find a 1200m maiden class race a much easier assignment.

Newcastle Race 2, a maiden over 900m features the debut of well bred Snitzel filly Dear Jewel, a half-sister to Caulfield Guineas winner Dear Prophet and she is trained by Hawkes Racing, who also prepared her famous sibling.

Let'sbefrankbaby has a big European pedigree.

Entries for Sale Race 1, a fillies maiden over 1415m include blueblood Frankel filly Let’sbefrankbaby, a $400,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Griffiths de Kock / Peter Ford Thoroughbreds (FBAA) / Haywood Bloodstock from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft.

She’s had one start for a second and has a big pedigree being the first foal of stakes-winning Invincible Spirit mare Baby Pink (IRE), a sister to stakes-winner Traisha and daughter of Group III winner Dress Rehearsal.

Bews runs for the Victorian Stallion Alliance partnership.

Sale Race 4 has a short priced favourite and it’s unraced I Am Invincible colt Bews, a $400,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Yarraman Park draft for Victorian Alliance/Suman Hedge B'Stock (FBAA)/David Redvers Bloodstock.

Trained from the powerful Mick Price / Mick Kent Jr stable, Bews is the first of stakes-placed Exceed and Excel mare Overstep.
