Tara Madgwick - Sunday July 17

Frankel is not the only European sire working towards 100 stakes-winners at present and the magic Galileo x Fastnet Rock nick strikes again with a new Group winner that also has a double cross of Urban Sea.

The Group II Kilboy Estate Stakes (1m1f) at the Curragh was won by the Aidan O’Brien trained Galileo filly Lily Pond, a daughter of Fastnet Rock mare Alluringly.

Ridden by Ryan Moore, the well bred filly won a maiden at Dundalk on debut in April before contesting three stakes races earning two placings.

She appreciated a drop in trip for this assignment and scored a half length win, her second from five starts.

Lily Pond is the 356th stakes-winner for the late Galileo and is his seventh from a daughter of Fastnet Rock, the nick running at 29% stakes-winner to runner.

A homebred for Coolmore, Lily Pond is the first winner for stakes-winner Alluringly, who was third in the Group I Epsom Oaks and is a grand-daughter of Group III winner All Too Beautiful, this branch of the Urban Sea family also producing Cox Plate winner Sir Dragonet.

Lily Pond has a 2 x 4 double cross of Urban Sea with third dam All Too Beautiful being a sister to her sire Galileo.

The Group III Prix Chloe (1800m) at Chantilly was won by Aga Khan homebred Sea the Stars filly Tariyana trained by Francis-Henri Graffard, who has taken over the training of Verry Elleegant.

She won on debut at Chantilly in May and was a last start eighth in the Group I French Oaks, scoring a length and a half win in this race as favourite.

Tariyana is the 95th stakes-winner for Galileo’s half-brother Sea the Stars and is the 51st for High Chaparral as a broodmare sire.

She is the best of two winners from Group III winning High Chaparral mare Taniya a grand-daughter of Group II winner Takarouna.
