This season's Group II German 2000 Guineas winner Poetic Dream was knocked down to Sydney-based bloodstock agent Louis Le Métayer of Astute Bloodstock for €900,000 ($A1.36m) at the Arqana Arc Sale.

Le Metayer was instrumental in the purchase of last start Naturalism Stakes winner Harlem for Lindsay Park Racing and said in a statement Poetic Dream will be aimed at the 2018 Cox Plate.

"I used to work for David Hayes and regularly buy horses for him," Le Metayer said.

"This one was very much the horse of the sale for us - he is a magnificent horse, an exceptional athlete who ran a tremendous time in the German 2,000 Guineas.

"We are putting together a partnership of existing clients of Astute's and David's and will aim him at next year's Cox Plate.

"He is lightly raced and can stretch further, we think he has a bright future ahead of him."
