One to Watch – Eagle Farm

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 29

Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (USA) will not be returning to Coolmore Australia this spring, but he featured on Wednesday with a debut 2YO winner trained by Chris Waller.

Cool Kaap ran a good second in a recent barrier trial in Sydney and dispatched to Queensland to make his debut the big chestnut found the 1200m maiden at Eagle Farm just to his liking.

He powered to the line for James Orman to win by a length.

A $320,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Kia Ora Stud draft for Tom Magnier, Cool Kaap runs for a syndicate of Coolmore and partners with his breeders Kia Ora Stud also retaining an interest.

Cool Kaap is the fourth winner from five foals to race from Group III winning import Ashley’s Kitty (USA), a half-sister by Tale of the Cat to Group I winner Cupid.

Cool Kaap was a $320,000 Magic Millions purchase from Kia Ora Stud.

Ashley’s Kitty was covered again last spring by American Pharoah, who has sired 10 stakes-winners worldwide this year, three of them Group I winners.
