A busy set of trials at Randwick on Tuesday morning on the turf produced seven two year-old heat winners and two of them are unraced youngsters that run for super successful Hong Kong owner Bon Ho, so who are these ‘little Legends’.
It was our second look at Deep Field gelding Sports Legend, who appeared as a world beater when he won his first trial on the synthetic track by five lengths.
On grass this time, the Les Bridge trained Sports Legend took a sit behind and then outside the leader in contrast to his last trial when he led all the way.
He was tractable for Kerrin McEvoy and when asked for an effort in the last 100m drew clear to win by nearly two lengths and his time was the quickest for all heats run at 1050m.
A $2
00,000 Magic Millions purchase for Bon Ho from the Newgate Farm draft, Sports Legend was bred by Love Racing and is the second foal from former fast stakes-winning 2YO Twist Tops, a daughter of Beneteau.
So You Think colt Smart Legend is also trained by Les Bridge and he also had a first outing at the same set of synthetic trials earlier this month and was second on that occasion.
He jumped well from an inside gate and settled third on the fence and made good ground down the straight doing his best work on the line to win by a long neck.
A $340,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Newhaven Park draft for Bon Ho, Smart Legend is the third foal from Herstory, a good metro winning Commands mare from stakes-winner Fuji Dancer, who comes from the family of Group I winners Sovereign Red, Gurners Lane, Trichelle and Foxwood.
Other heat winners were: Athletica (Exceed and Excel), Heiress Hera (Fastnet Rock), Seductive (Shalaa (IRE), Hell I Am (Hellbent) and Surf on Turf (Not a Single Doubt).
