Greg Polson Preview and top three bets for Ballina

Greg Polson - Sunday October 1

The impressive win of Camillo at Grafton on September 26 is a strong pointer to the day's best bet at Ballina on Sunday, as we declared Camillo at Grafton that day and our best bet at Ballina on Sunday comes with a similar profile.

There are plenty of reasons why this star is a standout for Greg Polson at Ballina.

STAR OF HARADA (Race 7 No 3)

We can't draw a direct comparison through Camillo but the rationale for making the Terry McCarthy trained Star Of Harada the standout bet in the Furnaces @ Aquis Farm Class 1 Handicap (1250m) is the same.

As with Camillo, Star Of Harada has to take the step up from a maiden win but regular readers of this column know my thoughts on that one.

One of the key factors highlighted with Camillo was the fact we could draw direct comparisons from four 1100m races on September 14 with Camillo the star performer in terms of times and sectionals but Star Of Harada's effort wasn't far behind with the figures on the day suggesting Star Of Harada was approximately two-lengths inferior to Camillo but substantially ahead of the other maiden winner and benchmark 55 victor on the day.

Camillo came out and won a class one by over three-lengths which augers well for the prospects of Star Of Harada on Sunday.

BELFLYER (Race 6 No 1)

Belflyer from the John Shelton stable at Grafton is racing in great form and will be chasing a third win from his last four starts when he lines up in the Community Cup (1400m) with Ben Looker in the saddle.

An impressive Grafton winner on August 21 lumping 61.5kg before winning the Moree Cup two runs back, Belflyer wasn't disgraced in a metropolitan grade race at Ipswich last time out finishing just over three-lengths form the winner Bourbon Road.

Belflyer looks well treated with 58.5kg on Sunday and with inside barrier draw which should deliver the six-year-old with the run of the race, Belflyer looks set to return to the winner's list.

POLSKIE LADY (Race 5 No 4)

The Jim Jarvis-trained Polskie Lady will be fitter second-up in the Woollam Constructions F&M Benchmark 65 Handicap (1000m) and is the horse to beat.

Polskie Lady looked the winner straightening at Ballina resuming from a 358-day break between races but the lack of a run told over the latter stages with the daughter of Denman weakening over the latter stages to finish third to Siroccan Lad in class two company.

It is worth noting, Polskie Lady was a Doomben winner second-up last preparation and a repeat is on the cards Sunday with the first-up run under her own belt taking on her own sex.
