Newgate Farm’s Russian Revolution is setting the pace on the Australian First Season Sires List by earnings and winners and added a 12th winner to his tally on Sunday when Communist saluted at Hawkesbury.
Trained by Michael Freedman, Communist was second on debut at the end of last month at Newcastle and took benefit from that outing.
He was determined to the line under Jean Van Overmeire to overhaul well fancied I Am Invincible colt Vinnies Spirit to win by half a length with race favourite the stakes-placed Golden Queen in third place.
Communist was a $160,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Sledmere Stud draft for his trainer and was bred by China Horse Club.
He is the second foal and first winner for stakes-placed Northern Meteor mare Cappadocia, a half-sister to Group I winner Zip Zip Array and stakes-winner Zipanese from the family of multiple Group I winners Niconero and Nicconi.
A full sister to Communist sold for $170,000 at Inglis Premier this year to Simon Zahra Racing and Cappadocia has a weanling colt to follow also by Russian Revolution.
Russian Revolution has had a service fee increase for this spring rising from $44,000 to $71,500.
