Newgate Farm’s leading first season sire Russian Revolution produced his 11th winner at Canterbury on Wednesday with promising filly Spicy Hotpot exploding from back in the pack to zoom home and win.
Third on debut at Randwick last month, the Mark Newnham trained filly took good improvement from that outing and showed a brilliant turn of foot under Tom Sherry to charge home and win the 1200m maiden by nearly two lengths.
A $130,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Edinglassie draft for Viribright Racing, Spicy Hotpot is a half-sister to stakes-winner Niedorp and is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Lonhro mare Black Tulip, a half-sister to Group II winner Hanks.
Spicy Hotpot is the 11th winner for Russian Revolution, who is the sire of Group winners Revolutionary Miss and Rise of the Masses as well as stakes-placed Russian Roni and Russian Conquest.
The dual Group I winning son of Snitzel stands at a fee of $71,500 this spring and is poised to be Champion First Season Sire for 2021/2022.
