Impressive Debut Winner for Brazen Beau

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 1

The Chris Waller stable produced a popular debut winner at Warwick Farm on Wednesday with three year old filly Pretty Wild greeted by a big team of happy owners.

The Brazen Beau filly settled at the tail of the field but charged to the line making light work of the heavy ground to win the 1200m maiden by nearly three lengths giving James McDonald his 100th metropolitan winner of the season.

Pretty Wild had two quiet barrier trials leading into this race and her trainer was pleasantly surprised with her effort.

“I didn’t quite know what to expect as she’d only had a couple of quiet trials and until that last 200m of a race you never really know what you’ve got,” said Chris Waller.

“She looks like she as a nice future and will only improve on today.”

Bred by Richard Lavender, who purchased her dam Calusa for $50,000 at the 2017 MM National Broodmare Sale, Pretty Wild was not offered for sale and runs for a syndicate of family and friends including Lavender’s wife Samantha Armytage.

She is the first winner for Calusa, a winning High Chaparral (IRE) mare from a full sister to champion sire Fastnet Rock.

Calusa was on-sold last year fetching $26,000 at the Inglis Broodmare Sale when bought by Ponderosa Park.

Brazen Beau is the sire of Pretty Wild.
