One to Watch – Goulburn

Tara Madgwick - Friday May 27

Pierro gave us a promising 2YO winner at Goulburn on Friday that will be well worth following.

Trained by Bjorn Baker, Emilia Romagna showed plenty of talent at the trials last spring, but was not seen to advantage when finishing unplaced behind Soaring Ambition and Lady Laguna on race day.

Given a good spell, she’s been looking stronger at the trials and ran right up to that when produced in a 1000m juvenile maiden.

Emilia Romagna charged home from back in the field to win by more than two lengths running away.

A $550,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Milburn Creek draft  for Spendthrift Australia, she now runs in the Myracehorse Syndicate colours.

Emilia Romagna was the most expensive yearling by Pierro sold at Magic Millions and was also his most expensive filly sold in 2021.

She is the second winner from brilliant sprinting mare Griante, winner of the Group I ATC The Galaxy and a three-quarter sister-in-blood to another Group I winner in Grand Journey.

Griante sadly died last year and her final foal is a colt by The Autumn Sun.

Emilia Romagna as a yearling.
