More Million Dollar Mares - $1.7Million for Lighthouse

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 24

Dashing grey mare Lighthouse (USA) arrived from North America as a Listed winner in June last year and in less than a year on our shores has risen to winning the Group I ATC Coolmore Classic and lighting up the sale ring at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on Tuesday.

Lighthouse sold for $1.7million.

Prepared for sale by Arrowfield Stud, Lighthouse sold for $1.7million to Dermot Farrington Bloodstock and is by Mizzen Mast.

The Spendthrift Dispersal produced a big result with stakes-winning Sebring mare Mac ‘n’ Cheese, who they bought as a yearling at Magic Millions for $300,000 from the Newgate Farm draft and sold today for $1.6million to the Written Tycoon Syndicate, who also purchased the two top mares Away Game and Tofane for a combined $7.1 million.

Mac ‘n’ Cheese is a half-sister to Group I winner Exceedance and Group III winner Oxley Road and is the only filly from ill-fated blue hen Bonnie Mac, who only had four foals before her premature passing in 2020.

Also purchased by the Written Tycoon Syndicate for $1.35million was blue-blooded European import Forever You (IRE), a full sister to Epsom Derby winner Sovereign by Galileo.

Forever You sold for $1.35 million.

Forever You was bought by Phoenix Thoroughbreds/ Aquis for 1.1million euros at the 2019 Goffs Orby Yearling Sale, but never raced in Europe and arrived in Australia in August last year.

She has had six starts here winning three of them at Kembla, Wyong and most recently at Warwick Farm in March over 2400m.
