Winner of the Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic back in March, promising Zoustar colt Twin Stars confirmed his potential with a determined victory in the Group III SAJC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville on Saturday earning a trip to Brisbane.
Trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, Twin Stars improved on his last start second to See You in Heaven in the Group III SA Breeders Stakes to post a tenacious long neck win under Barend Vorster.
“He was very good first up in the Magic Millions, then great the other day when second behind what looks a smart 2YO and then fabulous today at 1400m,” said Tony McEvoy.
“He’s a big striding horse and this inner track is not his track, but he was still able to get away with it.
“He will go to Melbourne on Monday and then Brisbane on Wednesday for the Sires Produce (1400m) worth a million dollars and then the JJ Atkins (1600m).”
A $225,000 Magic Millions purchase for McEvoy Mitchell Racing/Belmont Bloodstock Agency P/L from the KBL Thoroughbreds draft, Twin Stars has two wins and a second from just three starts and has already won over $200,000 in prizemoney.
Bred by Bowcock Bloodstock, Twin Stars is the best of two winners from stakes-winning Star Witness mare Pearl Star, who comes from the family of Group I winning 2YO Spectatorial.
She has a weanling colt by Shalaa (IRE), but missed last year so will have no foal this spring.
Twin Stars is the 28th stakes-winner for Widden Stud’s champion sire Zoustar, who stands at a fee of $198,000.
