Spendthrift Sold to Hesket Thorougbreds

Media Release - Tuesday May 10

The sale of Spendthrift farm has been finalised to Victorian operation Hesket Thoroughbreds. In an announcement that will be pleasing to the Victorian Breeding Industry, Hesket Thoroughbreds, a locally owned and operated breeding and racing business, has purchased the Spendthrift Australia farm, a number of their racing stock and stallions.

Picturesque Spendthrift Farm Australia has been sold.

For the 2022 breeding season and onwards, an agreement with Widden Victoria has been struck to stand Dirty Work and Overshare at their neighbouring stallion operation.

Antony Thompson, owner of Widden Stud, is delighted with the new additions to his Victorian roster.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be standing Dirty Work and Overshare at Widden Victoria.

“They are fast, good looking sons of highly successful stallions in Written Tycoon and I Am Invincible.

“Having these two exciting young stallions remaining in the state is great for the Victorian industry and they will be fantastic additions to the Widden roster.”

In 2021, Dirty Work covered 155 mares in his first season and Overshare covered 130 mares, his fourth season at stud, as his first crop two-year-olds have made an enormous impression with two winners and a placegetter, headlined by the outstanding, stakes placed filly Lady Laguna.

Dirty Work will stand at a fee of $16,500 inc GST and Overshare at $11,000 inc GST, with live foal payment terms.

Magic Millions has been entrusted with the tender process to find suitable new homes for proven stallions Gold Standard and Swear, so they can continue their respective stud careers. For all enquiries contact Dane Robinson at Magic Millions.

The unreserved dispersal of Spendthrift Australia’s mares and weanlings will continue as advertised at the upcoming Magic Millions Gold Coast sales. Buyers will have the opportunity to purchase high quality, well related and elite performed mares along with weanlings by both proven and exciting young stallions.

Please be aware that Hesket Thoroughbreds will look to support clients of the former Spendthrift Australia stallions as much as possible and all active nomination agreements will be honoured, be that ‘Breed Secure’, ‘Share the Upside’ and ‘Live Foal’ agreements.
