Your Song's Frankie Pinot Claims the Wangoom

Mark Smith - Wednesday May 4

On the day it was announced he would be returning home to Gooree Stud, Your Song celebrated when his son Frankie Pinot ploughed through the mud under apprentice Maddie Lloyd to claim the $200,000 Listed The Midfield Group Wangoom Hcp (1200m) at Warrnambool.

On the board in 16 of his 18 starts, the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained 5yo gelding did best in a driving finish to defeat defending champion Inn Keeper (Host) by a half-length with Showmanship (Showcasing) a half-neck back in third.

With a maiden stakes success at his first attempt, Frankie Pinot advanced his record to six wins, seven seconds, and two thirds from 17 starts with earnings of  $385,590.

Sporting the purple and white quarters of the McDonnell family, Frankie Pinot provided a career highlight for popular apprentice Maddie Lloyd.

"I honestly can't believe it. I can't thank the connections and Tony and Calvin (McEvoy) enough," Lloyd told Racing.com.

“This horse means a lot to me. I've had three wins and two seconds on him now. He's a special horse for me.

‘Around the corner, I was ducking and weaving, trying to find a way through.

“He relishes this ground, and he let rip.

“I could hear the crowd roaring halfway down the straight. It was great."

Frankie Pinot is the first foal of My Last Fling, a 3-time winner by Sebring from the family of stakes-winners After Beune (Jeune) and Elathea (Barathea).

My Last Fling has a yearling Written By filly and a weanling All Too Hard colt. She was covered by Doubtland last spring.

Frankie Pinot is the fifth stakes-winner for Fastnet Rock’s Group 1 BTC Cup hero Your Song, who returns to his birthplace Gooree Stud, after nine seasons at Widden Stud. (read the story here)
