The Coolmore Australia roster for 2022 has been finalised and will be further strengthened by the addition of I Am Invincible’s dual Group I winning sprinter Home Affairs, who is currently in training for a Royal Ascot campaign.
An $875,000 Inglis Easter yearling, the Chris Waller-trained Home Affairs showed immense talent from the outset, winning the Group III ATC Silver Slipper on just his second two-year-old start. Then as a three-year-old he firmly established himself as the best sprinting colt in Australia with successive Group I victories down the straight at Flemington.
On Derby Day, he was electric when easily defeating a high-class field by three lengths in the 1200m Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes, doing so in a faster time than the likes of Merchant Navy, Zoustar, Northern Meteor, Brazen Beau and Exceedance.
In February, Home Affairs beat world-class sprinters Nature Strip and Eduardo to become the first three-year-old colt since Fastnet Rock to win the Group I VRC Lightning Stakes (1000m)
“It’s with the utmost excitement that we welcome Home Affairs to Coolmore for the upcoming season. He was identified by the team at the 2020 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale as an absolute ‘must have’ offering. His perfect blend of speed, pedigree and physique have seen him become one of the best stallion prospects to retire to stud in Australia for many years,” commented Coolmore Australia’s Tom Moore.
“I Am Invincible is the most commercial sire in Australia and consistently produces outstanding types. Similarly, Home Affairs is a magnificent looking individual; a big, strong, imposing colt with immense quality, very much in the mould of his own sire. It is a sire line that is known for producing good-looking stock and Home Affairs is certain to impress everyone that comes to inspect him at the farm.”
On the pedigree front, Home Affairs ticks every box coming from a world renowned sire producing female family.
“He hails from the great Fanfreluche family, responsible for producing leading stallions such as Encosta De Lago, Flying Spur and the emerging Russian Revolution. We view Home Affairs as a vitally important stallion for the future of the Australian breeding industry and he will be supported accordingly,” Moore concluded.
Home Affairs will stand at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST when he returns to Coolmore Australia after a tilt at the Group I Platinum Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.
He will join two other exciting new prospects at Coolmore Australia in the shape of 2021 Cartier Horse of the Year, St Mark’s Basilica (Siyouni) and the brilliantly fast and precocious two-year-old Acrobat (Fastnet Rock) who will stand for $44,000 and $13,750 respectively.
“We have an exceptionally strong roster that suits everyone’s pocket,” added Coolmore Australia’s head of nominations Colm Santry.
“It’s fantastic to add three new stallions of the quality of brilliant sprinter Home Affairs, World Champion three-year-old St Mark’s Basilica and the record-breaking two-year-old Acrobat.”
