Expressions of Interest Sought to Stand Golden Slipper Sire Rebel Dane

Media Release - Monday March 21

Expressions of interest are being taken to stand Golden Slipper sire and multiple Group 1 winner Rebel Dane.

Rebel Dane is available for inspection at Silverdale Farm.

This rare and unique opportunity will be co-ordinated by FBAA agent Mark Player.

Rebel Dane has covered mares for five seasons when based in Victoria, and from small foal numbers has delivered stunning results.

Subterranean is from the first crop of Rebel Dane.

His first crop of 28 foals produced eight individual winners from 13 runners, including the G3 GCTC Ken Russell Memorial Classic winner Subterranean, Listed VRC Poseidon Stakes placed Lloyd’s Crown and city winner Rebel Shadow.

His second crop lifted the bar to a new level on Saturday, with the brilliant Laurel Oak-owned Fireburn winning the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes.

One of 26 current season juveniles for Rebel Dane, Fireburn’s Slipper win is the fourth consecutive win for the exceptional filly and follows a victory in the G2 Sweet Embrace Stakes.

Fireburn is a game changer for Rebel Dane.

“Fireburn has capped off an incredible start at stud for Rebel Dane,” said the stallion’s part-owner Steve Grant.

“To sire a Slipper winner from limited numbers is a dream come true and his results indicate freakish ability.

“All offers will be considered regarding equity and standing rights in Rebel Dane, as we commit to finding the right stud farm to partner with for the next exciting phase of his stallion career.”

Rebel Dane was an immensely talented racehorse, winning two Group 1 sprints and amassing $2.4 million in prizemoney throughout his eight-win career when trained by Gary Portelli.

“He’s leaving progeny with his exceptional athleticism, which is very very exciting,” said Portelli, who celebrated his second Golden Slipper win on Saturday.

“Obviously Fireburn is the best of the several Rebel Danes I train, but they can all gallop and all have great minds. Given he got better as he got older, it’s going to be a fun ride in the seasons ahead. I just hope they don’t get too expensive for me to get my hands on in the future!”

Expressions of interest in Rebel Dane should be directed to Mark Player on 0415 497 787 or mark@markplayerits.com and will be taken to 31st March 2022.

Rebel Dane is currently located at Silverdale Farm near Bowral in the Southern Highlands of NSW and will be available for inspection by appointment.
