Two From Two for $1.25 Million Zoustar Colt

Tara Madgwick - Friday March 18

The most expensive yearling by Zoustar sold in 2021 when selling for $1.25million, well named colt colt Zamborghini kept his record perfect when scoring his second win at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

The Matt Laurie trained Zamborghini was a commanding winner on debut at Ballarat last month and went to the post as a short priced favourite for the 1200m juvenile contest which featured just four runners.

He made the pace for Ethan Brown and fought on well enough to hold off talented Maurice (Jpn) colt Foujita San, who is also highly rated by his trainers Team Hawkes.

Matt Laurie was well pleased with the win, but favours sending the expensive colt to the paddock in the short term believing the best is still to come.

“He got himself into a nice rhythm, although is still very green, but he’s got a good engine,” said Ethan Brown.

Bred by Widden Stud in partnership and offered at Inglis Easter where he was snapped up by his trainer, Zamborghini runs for a syndicate that includes his breeders.

Zamborghini was a stunning yearling.

Zamborghini is the first foal of Lady Jivago, a speedy stakes-winning two year-old by Beneteau from the Singles Bar branch of the Easy Date family that has produced Group I winners King’s Legacy, Oohood and leading sire Not a Single Doubt.

Lady Jivago has no yearling for the sales this year, but produced another colt by Zoustar last spring and is back in foal to him again.
