Bistro All The Way in Cinderella Stakes

Mark Smith - Monday March 14

Anthony and Sam Freedman kept up their remarkable strike rate with Godolphin homebreds when Bistro, a filly the family has a strong connection with, captured the Monday’s Listed Cinderella Stakes at Morphettville.

Jamie Kah took the daughter of Street Boss (USA) straight to the front, and by the time they rounded the home turn, she had the field off the bit and chasing.

Under the slightest encouragement, Bistro defeated the Pariah filly Runaway Belle by three lengths with the favoured Divine Prophet filly See You In Heaven three-quarter of a length in third.

It was the second win in three starts for Bistro, who debuted with a win at Sandown last December before a 2-length fifth behind Miss Roseiano in the Group III Blue Diamond Preview on Australia Day.

The Freedman connection goes back to the purchase by Darley of the Redoute’s Choice filly Estee for $2.1million at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Estee earned black-type success in the Listed SAJC Adelaide Guineas and her talented daughter Estaminet (Lonhro), a 6-time winner, is the dam of Bistro.

“This was the target race for this filly. We thought she would handle this trip away,” Sam Freedman said.

“Big thanks to Paula (Trenwith) and her team. She does a good job taking on our horses over here, and she looks after them like her own.

“She is a filly that has shown very good ability. When she won her first start at Sandown, she had no idea what she was doing.

“She overdid it a bit in the Preview and probably got a bit lost. She still has a lot to learn. She is only very small, but she has a big stride. She should run 1200m no problem.

“We have given her a freshen-up here and there. We have a few decisions where we head now, but she has a bright future.

Street Boss (USA)

“She will go back to the farm tomorrow; give her a week off the pony and spend a week or so deciding where we head with her. She is very tough and is one of the biggest feeders at Pinecliff.

A granddaughter of the triple Group 1 winner Tycoon Lil, Estaminet has a weanling colt by Frosted (USA) and was covered by Too Darn Hot GB) last spring.

Her dam Estee has a yearling filly and weanling colt by Impending and was covered by Shamardal’s dual Group 1 winner Earthlight (IRE) last spring.  Bistro is the 61st black-type winner worldwide for Darley Stud's Street Boss (USA).
