Steady trade throughout Day Two of Book 2 at the National Yearling Sales Series saw yearlings destined for Hong Kong and Australia, in addition to the domestic market.
The presence of international buyers remained evident throughout the middle session of Book 2, which saw a further 160 yearlings go under the hammer at the iconic Karaka Sales Centre.
The highlight of Book 2 to date came late in the session after Paul Moroney Bloodstock and Wyborn Bloodstock secured Lot 954, a filly by Turn Me Loose out of Nightofpassion (NZ) (Don Eduardo) for $220,000.
She is closely related to multiple Group One-winning star Danzdanzdance (NZ) (Mastercraftsman) and was consigned by Windsor Park Stud.
NZB Bloodstock Executive Kane Jones was bidding on behalf of the purchasers in the sale ring.
”It was a pleasure to work in conjunction with Paul Moroney, who is a great judge, and to assist him with purchasing this filly.”
“I know Paul loved her and she was raised on a great farm, Windsor Park Stud. She will get every opportunity to star on the race track.”
“Our team of agents are here on the ground to assist anyone, whether it be with phone bidding or inspection notes for the remainder of Book 2,” Jones said.
Rodney Schick, Principal of Windsor Park Stud, was thrilled with a strong result to round out the second day of selling.
“She is a beautiful filly and a great mover. Obviously going to a great judge in Paul Moroney, and Kane Jones did an outstanding job on the bidding.”
“Turn Me Loose is doing a great job at the moment as a sire. He has had seven individual winners in over three different countries in the last 10 days. He’s got two in the Group One Sistema Stakes on Sunday at Ellerslie, as well as two more in a stakes race in Australia this Monday,” Schick said.
Hong Kong-based Paul Chow of Tartan Meadow Bloodstock was responsible for purchasing two of the top five highest purchases on Day Two of Book 2 for $150,000 and $130,000 respectively.
Chow bought Lot 894, a Proisir colt out of Pins mare Knockout (NZ) from Rich Hill Stud’s draft, as well as Lot 941, a colt by first season sire Ardrossan out of Miss Rule (NZ) (Bachelor Duke) from Prima Park.
Chow commented on his purchases at Karaka 2022.
“Both Alex Oliveira and I are very happy with our purchases this year. We secured our top picks for both Book 1 and 2.”
“We’ve always bought at Karaka, not only because our farm, Kaipira Lodge, is in New Zealand, but more importantly due to the depth of its quality.
“We’ve produced many good horses over the years from our Karaka purchases that have shone through in Hong Kong such as Pingwu Spark, Packing Victory, Duke Wai and Winning Dreamer. I’m sure there will be more than just a few future Hong Kong stars from this year’s draft,” Chow said.
Travelling to Karaka 2022 from across the Tasman, Patrick Payne secured the third highest purchase of the day.
The Victorian-based trainer had his eye on a number of kiwi stallions, and bought Lot 937, a colt by first season sire Ace High out of Rip Van Winkle mare Miss Milliner (NZ).
Selling continues on Day Three of Book 2, where the remaining lots 961 to 1103 will go through the ring from 11AM (NZT).
