Zoustar Magic Day at Murray Bridge

Media Release - Sunday March 6

Tony and Calvin McEvoy swept the Magic Millions SA feature double on a massive Murray Bridge Raceday as sale graduates swept two of the day's three Group Ones around Australia.

While Forbidden Love and Hitotsu starred in Sydney and Melbourne respectively with wins at the elite level, it was the McEvoy stable who starred at Murray Bridge.

No sooner had the cheering ended after the outstanding debut win of Twin Stars in the Magic Millions SA 2YO Classic, the stable was back in the winner's stall with Zoist in the inaugural Magic Millions SA 3&4YO Classic.

Twin Stars was labelled a star of the future after he scored a length and a quarter win over his rivals in the juvenile feature.

The $225,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase for McEvoy Mitchell Racing and Belmont Bloodstock from the KBL Thoroughbreds draft was sent out the $4.80 second elect and the son of Zoustar proved too strong.

"He's a lovely big horse," a thrilled Tony McEvoy noted. "I've always said he wanted to be three - he's a gangly sort of fellow and he's growing into his frame."

"Whilst all that was happening he's always shown us he had nice talent. He's been eating well and sound."

"Calvin and his team at Ballarat were very bullish about sending him over here for this race - so I thank them for all their work in getting him here in such good order."

"I think he's a miler when he gets a bit older. He's big and strong and Jake did a great job on him, giving him a bit of cover - he was very strong," McEvoy added.

Toeroek was equally as impressed with Twin Stars.

"He won that on pure ability alone," winning rider Jake Toeroek reported. "I think he's going to be a serious horse."

Just over half an hour later the stable was celebrating again when Zoist proved too good in the inaugural running of the $120,000 Magic Millions SA 3&4YO Classic.

Zoist, a $280,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase from Newhaven Park, enhanced his impressive career record with a length and a half success under Barend Vorster.

Like Twin Star, Zoist is a son of Zoustar - a sire McEvoy has tasted so much success with. Sunlight, the $6.5 million earning Magic Millions graduate and $4.2 million record breaking National Broodmare seller, is another Zoustar galloper who has starred for the stable.

Elsewhere, Magic Millions graduates were in red hot form. As mentioned earlier the All Too Hard mare Forbidden Love (Canterbury Stakes) and Maurice colt Hitotsu (Australian Guineas) were Group One winners again for connections - not bad considering they cost $150,000 and $100,000 respectively.

Sword of State (Snitzel), already a Group One winner, added the Group Three King's Plate to his outstanding record with the Ellerslie feature won earlier today. He was a $600,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy from Newgate Farm.

In Toowoomba the $10,000 National Yearling Sale purchase Sea Raider (Reset) won the Listed Tattersall's Member's Cup for trainer John Gilmore - the 11th win from just 30 starts and earnings of almost $400,000. Sea Raider is another stakes winner sold by Bowness Stud.

And across in Perth later in the evening Carocapo (Husson) scored an upset, but highly deserved, win in the Listed Bunbury Stakes at Ascot. He was a $90,000 Perth Yearling Sale buy for Damien Wyer from the Toreby Park draft.

Meanwhile, official inspections for the 2022 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale commence on Friday morning at the Morphettville Sales Complex.
