Top bets from Paul Joice for Wednesday

Paul Joice - Wednesday September 27

Midweek racing at Rosehill is a bit of a treat for punters, so I'm planning to make the most of it.

Confident my patience will be rewarded when this mare wins at Rosehill on Wednesday. Photo: Steve Hart

SO BIZARRE (Rosehill Race 2 No 8)
Gambling on a first starter from the Tracey Bartley stable. Wasn't far away at his first campaign but really impressed with his lead-up trial coming into this – I'm confident he's improved plenty. Showed natural pace there and was soft through the line finishing runner-up behind Spright. Has a tricky gate with pace drawn underneath him, so will need the breaks, but at double-figures looks a worthy gamble.

GRACIOUS GREY (Rosehill Race 3 No 7)
Ron Quinton's mare is the only last start winner in this field. Most of these are at their level whereas Gracious Grey is still lightly raced with some upside. Has been hot and cold during her career, often showing plenty of potential at the trials only to leave it behind on raceday. However her latest winning effort at Gosford was tough which shows she is now in for the fight. With Kerrin McEvoy aboard, he can use her tactical speed to put her in the right position in a race which appears to lack any genuine pressure.

ANGASI (Rosehill Race 4 No 3)
Mark Newnham has only had this mare for two starts. Caught the eye running on late first-up around Canterbury over 1200m then relished the bigger track and the 1400m when a dominant winner at Newcastle. Tackles this third-up, out to 1500m off a soft gate and looks to offer tremendous value.

GIBRALTAR GIRL (Rosehill Race 5 No 7)
This is best of the day and I'll be betting accordingly. I've been waiting to back this Snowden-trained mare since a tragedy beaten in the Denises Joy at Scone back in May. She was climbing all over the back of them on that occasion but couldn't get a clear crack. Resumed at Randwick over 1000m and sizzled home when third behind Super Too (led throughout). Thrown into the deep end second-up in the Group III Sheraco Stakes and acquitted herself well, beaten only 4-1/2 lengths behind Ravi. This is the right race for her – fast tempo, dry track, right grade. I'm betting up.
BET: WIN
ODDS $5 @ William Hill ($6 PricePump)
