Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Thursday March 3

The big wet in Sydney did not stop a set of barrier trials going ahead at Randwick this morning on the polytrack with six heats for juveniles that included a couple of interesting winners by Zoustar and Russian Revolution and a Karaka purchase for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Zoustar filly North Star Lass holds an entry for the Group II ATC Percy Sykes Stakes and the Golden Slipper, so is obviously held in good regard and showed nice ability and race craft to win her 780m heat by a neck.

Interesting runner back in the field was Jolted, a Deep Impact filly, the first foal of Group I SAJC Schweppes Oaks winner Abbey Marie, whose second foal, a filly by Dundeel will be offered at Inglis Easter as Lot 35.

We might well be looking at Jolted in 12 months time as an Oaks contender.

North Star Lass comes from a good fillies family and is from Group III placed Snitzel mare Sheila’s Star, a half-sister to stakes-winner Jacqueline Rouge and daughter of Group III winner North East Sheila.

Group I winning mare Instant Celebrity features in the pedigree which has also worked previously with Zoustar to produce HK stakes-winner Healthy Happy.

Russian Revolution looks to have another winner in the pipeline in the Peter and Paul Snowden trained colt Insurrection, who travelled wide all the way in his heat and hit the line full of running under a hold to win by three-quarters of a length.

It was the second trial this preparation for Insurrection, who showed good improvement on his previous trial; where he just went around under a quiet hold throughout to finish fourth. He holds an entry for the Group I ATC Sires Produce and Golden Slipper, but an entry for the metro juvenile maiden next Wednesday looks the immediate goal.

Interesting runner in third place Burgunder, blueblood Snitzel colt being the first foal of VRC Oaks winner Pinot.

A $150,000 Inglis Classic for Darby Racing/ Will Johnson Bloodstock, Insurrection was bred Bob Hannon, the breeder of Shamus Award and he also comes from the same family as the Cox Plate winning sire, who is a three-quarter -sister to his dam Marple Miss.

Windsor Park Stud’s young sire Turn Me Loose has had a few smart winners of late and Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott will be expecting Bucks Party to add his name to that list after encouraging first public outing

Slowly away, he took a few strides to muster pace, but made good ground along the inside to charge home from last and win nicely for Regan Bayliss.

Bucks Party is a half-brother to good Melbourne metro winner So Risque and comes from the family of Group I winner Star Satire and a myriad of Group winners including Satin Shoes, Soubrettes and Zarzuela.

Other trial winners were:  One Reason (Capitalist), Acquaro (I Am Invincible), Avebury (Savabeel) .
