Third Group I Winner for Zoustar

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 1

Widden Stud’s champion sire Zoustar has his third Group I winner with quality mare Mizzy now the winner of the 2021 ATC Canterbury Stakes following the disqualification of the winner Savatiano.

$2.2million mare Mizzy is now officially a G1 winner!

Godolphin trainer James Cummings was penalised with a $10,000 fine and Savatiano was disqualified after stewards concluded an inquiry into the mare’s positive swab after winning the Group I event last year.

Savatiano tested positive to banned steroidal substances trendione, trenbolone and epitrenbolone. The three prohibited substances are linked to the drug Altrenogest, which regulates the fertility cycle in mares.

How the drug came to be in mare’s system remains a mystery, read the full story at Racenet here.

A multiple Group II winner that was also second in a Group I Coolmore Classic, third in the Golden Eagle to Kolding and Sunlight and fourth in the Group I Surround Stakes, Mizzy was sold at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale last year to Tom Magnier for $2.2million.

She certainly had Group I ability and now has the actual win on her record to support it.

Mizzy went to stud last season and was one of 188 mares covered by Wootton Bassett (IRE).
