The Richard Litt trained colt was ridden by his regular partner Robbie Dolan and was made to work for his win by runner-up Royalzel, who was pushed along.

Profondo always looked comfortable as the top two sped clear of their rivals to put a gap of six lengths on them in the 1175m heat.

up I ATC Randwick Guineas (1600m) is the anticipated starting point for Profondo, who holds entries for the Group I ATC Australian Derby (2400m) and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m). Rain may force a change to that plan with the Group I VRC Australian Guineas at Flemington the alternative.

The $1.9million Magic Millions sale-topper for Arrowfield Stud in 2020, Profondo is the first foal from Group III winning Redoute’s Choice mare Honesty Prevails, whose second foal, a colt by Shalaa (IRE) also sold for seven figures fetching $1.15 million at Magic Millions last year when secured by James Harron Bloodstock.

Named Custodian, he is entered for the Group II ATC Todman Stakes this Saturday.

The third foal from Honesty Prevails is a Dundeel colt that will be offered by Arrowfield at Inglis Easter as Lot 214.
