Short Fuse a must have for Muollo

Media Release - Tuesday February 8

Group placed mare Short Fuse was a must have for Novara Park Stud principal Luigi Muollo when he saw her listed on gavelhouse.com, bidding to $92,500 to secure her.

By Per Incanto, Short Fuse was recently retired by Richardson Racing Stables and listed for unreserved sale.

Muollo was strong from the outset with a bold $20,000 bid not long after the sale launched and kept the pressure on throughout the auction.

“I liked Short Fuse for a number of reasons, her pedigree and black type performance make her a Book One mare.” he said.

“In her pedigree she has Gr.1 ATC Derby King Explosive Jack, Gr.1 NZ Derby winner Vin De Dance and Champion Hong Kong Griffin Pick Number One who Novara Park bred so I am wanting to continue that success at the highest level from what is New Zealand’s best pedigree of recent times.”

“Just as important is that Short Fuse has a pedigree that shares at genetic affinity with Novara Park’s three stallions Sweynesse, Staphanos and King Of Comedy.”

“With Per Incanto being by Street Cry, at this stage King Of Comedy is the favourite match for her as his sire Kingman has left the three-time Group One winner Domestic Spending out of a Street Cry mare.”

“Sweynesse is also a great mating as Lonhro left the Group One Blue Diamond winner and multiple Group One performer Lyre out of a Street Cry mare.”

Also attracting spirited bidding on Monday night were two of Go Racing’s recently retired mares with Loose Cannon fetching $36,000 and Last Leg $38,000.

Entries for the next gavelhouse.com fortnightly auction close at 10pm on Monday while the Gavelhouse Plus site is ready and waiting for bespoke sales of high class Lots or reduction sales. Contact Haylie Martin to discuss your options +64 9 296 4436 or email haylie@gavelhouse.com
