With 200m to run in the $200,000 Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy (RL) at Pinjarra on Sunday, there would be half a dozen hard-luck stories, none more so than the Rommel filly Pixie Chix who was blocked for a run and bounced around like a pinball.
With Pat Carbery in the saddle the David Harrison trained filly found a narrow seam to rocket home a half-length winner over the I’m All The Talk outsider Gorgeous Gossip with a further one and quarter lengths back to the Blackfriars gelding Black Fantasy in third.
It was just the second win at start twelve for Pixie Chix, who snapped a seven-start losing streak since breaking her maiden at Ascot almost twelve months ago.
Harrison, who won the race last year with Gemma’s Son, said Dixie Chick’s racing style has often been her undoing.
“It’s great for all the girls, and it’s all come together today,” Harrison said.
“That is the way you have to ride her because she can’t really get the 1200m. She needs to be cuddled up and ridden for luck.
“Paddy rode her a treat. He pushed his way out and found a run between horses.
“The owners come from all parts of WA, and most have been with me for thirty of forty years, so it is great and they are all excited.
Pixie Chix was purchased by John Chalmers Bloodstock (FBAA) for $20,000 from the Mogumber Park draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.
She is the first foal of the unraced Snitzel mare Snow Pixie. Pixie Chix’s 2yo brother Snowdome has finished second in his two starts to date the most recent of which was behind Street Parade at Ascot.
Street Parade looked all over the Magic Millions WA 2yo Classic winner before finishing third.
Snow Pixie has a Safeguard colt in the Gold Front Thoroughbred Breeding and Racing draft at the Perth Magic Millions. (lot 217)
She was covered by Safeguard again last spring.
Pixie Chix becomes the first stakes-winner for Mogumber Park’s Commands stallion Rommel.
The Group II WATC West Australian Guineas and Group III MRC Zeditave Stakes winner covered a career-high 83 mares last spring at a fee of $4,400.
